I was honored to receive the invitation to participate in Iris Dankner’s 2014 Holiday House Showhouse which benefits the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
I was a late add to the roster and to my delight the ballroom was still available which occupies the top floor of the famed Academy Mansion on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
As Holiday House is to celebrate holidays, I could only think of the joy of Gallery Hopping in Miami in December each year where so many art festivals are held.
In homage to those festivals, “Gallery Hopping in Miami” was born and the subsequent design inspired by those trips.
The ballroom is devoid of architectural detail and a window arrangement not in keeping with a modern aesthetic, I wrapped the entire room floor to ceiling in white ripple fold draperies with an iridescent threading. The area carpet was a custom design and fabricated by Crosby Street Studios. All of the furniture was on loan from Lazzoni and two pieces of sculpture which functioned as furniture from artist Pryor Callaway.
The art spanned the ages from post-impressionism to avant garde and included canvases, kinetic sculptures and photography.
The lighting design was custom and added for the occasion.
